Ok.......... this is all I could find at the moment... breakfast cereal - nutty 125 grams whole linseed 125 grams soy bran 125 grams wheat bran 125 grams almond flour 75 grams sunflower seeds Mix togehter, heat in microwave with some water, add some cream and pecans for a good nutty breakfast. I've put five tablespoons of the dry mix with some water in the microwave, and found it filling. No clue yet how many mornings this will last, but I suspect a while. Notes: (from other posters)... Q:- I've never heard of soy bran. What is it and where do you get it? A:- I got it in my local holland and barrets, a bit more expensive htan wheat bran, but also lower carb. Do you grind the linseed (flax seed) and sunflower seeds. If you don't grind the first, it will just expell itself through your system, and you won't get the full advantage of the healthy oils it contains (I found this out after eating mine whole in my breakfast mixture for months). An alternate mixture, that I often have: 2 Tbsp (30 - 40 g) flax seed (linseed), ground 1 Scoop (40 g) Iso-Pro Protein Powder (or your choice) Add hot water to make a somewhat runny mixture. Microwave for 1 minute I add a little cream (1 ounce?) and a few fresh blueberries to mine after it comes from the microwave. Makes it like hot oatmeal/cereal in the morning. I have, at times, added a Tablespoon of almond flour or something else, and usually also add cinnamon, but those alterations are certainly left the the individual taste. Keeps you regular, for sure. I think if you want a COLD crispy cereal, you might have to buy a pre-mix/packet or get creative

Dawn Well, it has been a while and I have been very busy--but eating a lot!
I had most of this keyed in a week or more ago, but I lost it when the computer decided it needed attention!
The day or so after your last post, I decided I would stop at the market to pick up the recipe components. When I got there, it was evident that I had forgotten the list!!
So, I wandered around in the diet aisle....to my surprise, I found an Atkins 'approved' breakfast cereal with almond slices and blueberries..and with a net of 4 carbs per serving--so I bought it! On the way out, I stopped to get my wife and the only at home daughter a bagel and just happened to ask the lady if they had any low carb bread---she said, 'it should be on the shelf behind you"--and it was! Two or three to choose from. Yes, I bought one! It has 4 grams net per slice and the slices are really thin but they do a great job with sandwiches and toasted!!
They both are now a staple--and I have not finished either yet! I still need to experiment with the recipe, but these are buying me time, which is scarce lately.
My good news is that I finished the first 50 strip container and started the new one(100 strips) and they are and have been still changing--in fact, just about always to the right of center.
The weight seems to have bottomed out--the tummy has not lessened any more--at least according to the tape measure, but it feels better in the clothes.
I have been trying to deal with the 64 ounces of water a day, but sometimes it becomes a job!!
However, I do miss the daily postings and will try to keep it up again. Work has been just out of control..thankfully!
How are things at your end?
Take Care Joe

Hi Dawn
Well, I spoke a bit too soon.....yesterday I ate so much I told my wife at supper that I was just full!
This morning, the first of my new stix told me I had gone a bit too far, as, although there was indeed still change, this was the first time in over 8 weeks that it was close to the lowest!
Needless to say, I had a bowl of the new Special K low carb cereal(with some sugar as an ingredient) with the low carb Hood milk, along with a couple of slices of ham and cheese rolled up for lunch(no milk) and some low carb macaroni and sauce tonight.
Then I had to go to the market to purchase more sliced cheese and, as has become commonplace for me, I looked around at the 'diet' aisle. Yep, found a treat and a treasure! Found bags of shelled walnuts, which I normally do not care for, but these are learning times. The walnuts have.....per 1/4 cup a total of 3 grams of carbs and 3 grams of fiber(which I 'sorely' need!) for a net of ZERO carbs. You guessed it--I bought a bag!! They also have no Sugars and 5 grams of protein...lots of fat, no cholesterol and 135 mg of Potassium...no salt.
Seems like I may have to acquire a taste for them and leave the pumpkin seeds alone for a night or two.
Also, no bread today.
I will see what tomorrow brings.
Thanks for listening but, as I have kept you posted so far, I wanted to keep you up to date.
Joe

Hi Joe Sorry about the lack of replies, but I have been busy, ill and OFF plan It`s great that you are finding products to keep you on plan, and the sticks are certainly letting you know when you have over done it, which is good. I have to catch up on all the posts on the 4 boards I`m on (haven`t visit any in a while). I`m haven`t got back on plan as yet, so I hope the weight isn`t pileing back on It`s good about the walnuts......... really need to ensure you are getting enough fibre in your diet, or it causes ALL sorts of problems............. and try to get that water in I`m going to have a read, as I have missed a lot of posts lately. Keep up the good work, you are doing Great!

Hi Well, I found this cereal by General Mills' called 'Total Protein'. It is a good tasting cereal noted as 7 Grams Net Carb. It has a pretty impressive list of RDA's supplied.
I am not trying to sell this but am posting because the large companies have finally/apparently caught on/up with low carb and this is a good example. I have one more for later.
Here are the Nutrition Facts for a 4/4 Cup serving: Calories-110 from fat 20
Saturated: 2.5g Trans Fat: 0 Polyun.:0.5 Monouns.:1.5 Cholesterol: 0 mg Sodium:270 Potassium:65 Total Carb: 8g Dietary Fiber 1g Sugars 1g Other Carb: 6 Protein: 14
Lots of vitamins/nutrients too.
Seems like they are helping the $$ thing to as the box is much larger than the Atkins recommended box and is significantly less expensive.
With the Low Carb milk, it comes to about 12-13 carbs for breakfast. Not bad.
FYI. Joe

I can understand your excitement of finding these things........ I do too when I find something. I`m feeling a lot better......... didn`t actually GET the flu, just kept getting all the symptoms.......... amybe because I was a bit run down, and lack of sleep. You have times like that. Hi Again. I trust things are getting better healthwise. Those flu like things sometimes are slow to let go.
I am writing to let you know of more good news---in searching for the low carb bread the other nite, I went to the local Walmart where someone told me the bread was much less expensive and they were correct! But, the better thing I found was the large selection of breads--probably a dozen or so varying in types---multi grain, plain, thin sliced, seeded, etc.
So, last night I needed to go to my local market to get some of the milk I have been using and, to my surprise, the bread aisle was also filled with low carb breads too!! There was one I am going to get next time for sure.
Then, alongside the milk in the cooler, I saw another low carb beverage from Hood's---a 3 net carb Orange Juice 'Beverage'!! Well, it was only 25 cents more than the 'regular' orange juice...so, I brought it to the cash register.
In addition, I also found a low carb peanut butter and it too came home with me!
Soooo, this morning...breakfast was a large bowl of cereal with the milk along with a half serving of the OJ....for 13 carbs!!! I tell you, if there are only a few more low carb foods(popcorn?), it would be even easier!!
Weight is now at the lowest point--solidly at 7 pounds below the goal weight I had pointed at-- and the waist finally shows up smaller on the tape measure!
I think I feel good and the clothes fit much better.
As I mentioned above, I have found so much new foods lately, it almost feels like I have not cut down. I am feeling 'full' most of the time. With the new breakfast choices--cereals, juice, etc.) and dinner being about 'normal' too, the low carb choice thing actually lets me enjoy the program, but I would like a potato or two....but would swap it for some popcorn!
I have raised the carb number each week and all is remaining the same...ketostix, weight, feeling, etc. At some point, I will be high enough for potato's, popcorn and the like! A few more weeks and I may be somewhat normal, well, not quite, but... Anyway, the bottom line is that I feel good and that is important to me.
There, no more about me for a while! I just needed to tell someone(S) about the finding of the new foods and the more there are the lower the cost will be.....hopefully.
I have talked long enough.
Later. Joe

With being able to drink juice etc, it really DOES seem like you are eating regular food You should be able to include potato or popcorn in your diet every now and again...... maybe once a week or so, without too much dramas Your doing so well, and it`s excellent to hear you are also FEELING Good. Keep up the good work ;D

Hi Kid! Good to get a note from you! I trust all is OK.
Things are still going along fine. weight has just about stabilized and I am eating a lot more. Just no popcorn, potatoes or sweets. I have been eating varying kins of low carb breakfast cereals, low carb hot dog and hamburger rolls and have tried a number of low carb breads--even a rye! They are all either acceptable or very good.
Stix are still doing fine. Doing some physical therapy for my arthroscopically repaired knee(this past March) as it has bothered me quite a bit lately. Taking all kinds of supplements...including powdered fiber!
Weight varies from 7 to 9 pounds below my goal weight and I am eating more to try to add some where I want it to go----right, like that will happen! However, I am exercising a bit, coloring the stix and, I think, by keeping them colored and not gaining weight, maybe the fat is still leaving but muscle replacement is underway.
I don't look so good--face drawn in is the most prevelant comment. Loose pants are my proudest accomplishment!!!
I am sticking with it.
I have even had small pieces of watermelon...only one morning was the stix almost not colored. That was after the long baseball game when I ate a lot of nuts after a late night sandwich
The bread and rolls have made this so much easier. The post breakfast cereal and the hood milk have done up breakfast as has the other cereals.
I figure that more choices are coming so it can only get better. I found that Walmart has the largest variety of low carb breads.
how are you doing? Joe

So great to hear you are still going so well (apart from the knee pain). Eating the lower Carb varieties of foods avaliable is really agreeing with you..................... you never know, you may decide to have one day a month for those potatos and popcorn, since you are below your goal weight now. Adding powdered fibre into your diet has got to help a lot. People will always notice weight loss from your face........ that`s where the "Drawn look" comes from. If you are healthy, no need to worry Allowing bread and rolls will certainly make meals a lot easier.............. great to hear their are so many varieties avaliable to you. I`m doing fine............ over my "flu-Like" sysmptoms, but not on "Low Carb". I will probably get up and running again in the new year................ but for now, we are just eating the things from our freezer and cupboards, as this time of the year is always lean, financially. I want to get back into in to it when the warmer months arrive soon, when BBQ`s are all the go......... and in the right frame of mind. For now I just keep checking in every now and then. ;D

Dawn i am sure that if I put aside a day for potato or popcorn it will be all over! That is how it was with cigarettes--took years to quit and many times I just had one and went back. I have self control but only if it is all or nothing. BTW, cigarettes were about 25 years ago and I still miss them!
It is neat to hear that warm weather is approaching for you there--just the opposite here, unfortunately. While autumn may 'look nice', we all know what is coming. Speaking of finances, the price of heating oil will certainly go higher--now it is out of control.
I am assuming you get a 'regular' winter---lots of snow, cold and wind none of which appeal to me! Our wintertime low temperature is about -20F and it hangs around zero for a few days at a time during bad stretches. The snow, well, yeah, I know it is pretty--pretty awful if you ask me!
The best thing I find about winter is that it certainly makes you really look forward to Spring!.
You flu like illness--did it require a visit to the doctor's office? Everyon ehere is worrying about the shortage of flu vaccine and they are sayaing, as they always do, that this could be a bad flu season. I hope not.
Please feel better and keep in touch.
Joe

During my twice a week Physical Therapy for my knee, I ran across a poster in the exercise room...talking about low carb-ing. When I came home, I searched the net for something like it and found something very interesting from a very well known place--it is a good read. Here 'tis the site:(again, just passing along a site--no reccomendations, support or anything else intended): www.hopkinsafter50.com/html/silos/diabetes/wpARTICLE_diets.phpJoe

And here is one more: www.vanderbilt.edu/AnS/psychology/health_psychology/TheAtkinsDiet.htm---I disagree with the conclusion--I have been on board with my doctoe with regard to blood analysis and I do feel better and better than i have in a long time. I have colored the Stix every day for over 70 days in a row... I am loosing weight, but not as much as the early stages.....as I have been increasing the carb count and notice the weight loss around the middle so,with the weight staying about the same must mean that it is being redistributed. I like the low carb thing--I eat what we all eat, excepting the high carb things--potatoes, rice and fruits, especially. So, if I am eating incorrectly so are my wife and the kids...and they seem healthy! We eat chicken, pork and beef(I eat fish once in a while--they never do!). I just think the reading of negative stuff about low carbing is not bad....as knowledge can only help those who are involved. Enjoy, Joe
