Well, I need to ask.
As I read, I purchased and used the first stix and am looking to find out what I am supposed to find out! As far as my reading(memory) goes, I believe that with a reading that is plus the low carb diet may be working to release those little ketone things which mean fat release too.
Am I somewhere near correct or do I go back a few chapters?
Thanks Joe
PS, reading is about 60('Moderate to Large')

Here is the deal on the sticks. Ketones are circulated in and used from our bloodstream. If ketones show up in your urine they are just spilled over from the ones that are not used in your bloodstream. It is very possible to use up all the ones in your bloodstream and have none left to show up in your urine. Add to that , if you drink a lot of fluids during the day, it dilutes your urine and they will not change color. Any color change means ketones, you are either in ketosis or you are not in ketosis, but if it is too dark of a color it could mean that you are not drinking enough. I have used them, I find they work best first thing in the morning and not so good the rest of the day. Many people get a metalic taste in thier mouth or keto breath, very distinctive kind of bad breath, and that is a good sign you are in ketosis. Please do not let those sticks get you discouraged. They can never show pink and you could be in full ketosis. I have also heard they do go bad within about six months of being opened, so if you have them longer than that, they can become very inaccurate. Stephie

Stephie Well, I think the fact that it did have color that was one or two away from the end means that the low carb intake is working...don'tya think?
I will do the morning thing too.
Geeze, they cost almost $10--they had better work! Tomorrow should be a good test--under 20 and a little more than 10 g today and a lot of liquids. This is the 3rd or fourth day like that! All it has meant so far is that I am wearing a path out during the night!
Thanks for the time once again. Joe

LOL....... I know what you mean.......... one night I had to go every half an hour As for the sticks, I dont use them, as they have never changed for me. Each to their own, but as Stephie has said, don`t rely solely on them. Great to hear you are doing so well with your low-carbing ;D

:)Yep, it sounds like they are working for you, that is great, I do love the added security of seeing that stick turn the pink color. My jar is getting old so I am not sure if they are any good now or not. I have not tried them in a couple of weeks. I had to laught at the wearing a path comment, me too !!! The fluids seem to be so important to my weight loss. If I get a gallon of water or diluted ice tea in, I can lose a half pound a day, without it, if I don't drink that much, I will lose a half pound a week, which basicly happened this week. I am wasting my time if I do not get a gallon in, now this is what works for me, not everyone needs that much. Everyone is differant. I am happy they are changing for you, I just wanted you to know why they don't sometimes, so you would not get discouraged, you would be surprised how many times they do not turn because of the reasons I stated, but if they are turning for you, that is wonderful !!! Stephie - roughly how many mugs would you say a gallon is? I have always drunk lots of tea (hardly any milk and no sugar), but I am trying to match a mug of water for every mug of tea. That comes to about 9 mugs a day I guess, of each. I use those wopping great mugs that hold 3 quarters of a pint each! Joe - I am really pleased that the sticks are changing for you. It is sooo encouraging and a big sign that it's working! Well done! I used then quite a lot the first time I low-carbed and had great succes, but last time I had hardly any results at all. Maybe it was a duff box! I steer clear of them now or I get a bit neurotic! ;D Is 10g enough in a day? I had read that if you have too few carbs, your loss will slow down. But I am NO expert! Sounds like you are off to a flying start!

I think 1 US Gallon is equal to about 7 pints..... but I`m an Aussie, so dont take my word for it.. LOL
And I dont eat 20 carbs a day either........... I probably eat 10 or less a day.
It`s individual.... each person is different.... some can loose weight, others may stall.
I think in the OLD Atkins book, He said it is ok to eat under 20 grams, just dont go OVER on induction.

Oh well That saves me worrying when I don't hit the 20g in a day then! Excellent. Wow! That's a lot of water. I had better pick up the pace.

" I`m an Aussie"
What! You mean you guys may need to diet too? Whod'a'thunk it! anyway, re the iced tea...the mix I have shows the dreaded, at this point, poisonous carbs on the label--of course it is the one the kids use and the word 'sugar' is also there! I would assume just plain old hot tea cooled off is carb-less.
Ketostix really got over to the right one more color this morning and there are no more darker colors to go to. Stephie, I did not really relate the amount of liquid to the amount of weight loss----nicely put. I have been doing about 5-6 large glasses a day...maybe I will just sleep under the faucet and rent a catheter...... A couple of nights I had a bottle of low carb beer, but decided that no carbs really should mean no carbs, so I have opted to remain sober.
The amount of fresh vegetables in the garden is killing me--the tomatoes and cucumbers and peas...geeze, I only want to lose 4 or 5 more pounds but need to get used to controlling the carbs---as I mentioned earlier it was 5 months of no fat before this. You are correct, I have no life! On the no fat I wanted some mayonnaise and bacon and the like, now I would like some tomato and bread to wrap around the bacon and mayonnaise and lettuce...if you know what I mean.
I am off to the water cooler..
Later and no offense to any persons country...well almost any.....

Stephie I wonder if I drank out of a glass that was tapered in about half way down if it would convince my body that it should assume the same shape? I have lost so much good weight from the no fat thing that the arms and legs look pathetic(legs always did anyway, but now they are skinnier) and I am hoping that the no/low carb thing will help put some back.
I am not an exerciser although I do walk a lot during the night and back and forth to the car as often as necessary.
Business dictates that I am continually active so I am not sure if I need the exercise as I am exhausted at the end of the day and always have been. The appendages really need work now. The lack of protein sure shows.

it`s always the way............. what ever plan you choose to follow, you want what is on another plan. Doing Weight Watchers, I wanted pork chops, bacon etc but you could only have it extremely lean, and only a small portion. Now on low carb, you want breads, cereals & pasta. I KNOW thoses foods will always be there, and I can have some later if I really want to,,,, but for Now i`m not. As for the skinny pins, if you really want to increase their size, you may have to look at doing some weights, to build the muscles up. I`m not an excercisy peorson either, but will have to do some work soon, or I`ll be left with saggy skin... Might have to set up a water IV, and drag that around with you ;D Dawn

Wow, you have all been having a party without me today. My day started out with a dead computer mouse so I could not get online this morning. A new mouse and key board came with my daughter in law, but also came with baby that she left with me, so still no computer time !!! Joe, if you are drinking that many large cups, you should be fine. By large I am assuming you mean the big four cup plastic travel cup type thing, or is it smaller? Just take a measuring cup and pour cups of water into it until you can see how many it holds. My cup holds four cups, so I try for four to five of them a day. As for as the mugs go Avariel , it sounds like you are doig great on the water too, sounds like I was singing to the choir, you did not need any water advice either of you !! I do know the high protien diet will help to build mucsle Joe, and if you excercise too it will help. Also there is a suppliment called L Glutamine it is an amino acid and it is supposed to help not only with cravings but with helping to break down the protien to be used better . You can get in online or at the store. Okay Joe, you should not be exhausted on your low carb diet. Quite the opposite, you should have a lot of energy and the fact you are exhausted combined with the dark sticks make me wonder if you are eating too little carbs or not enough food. Are you taking potassium and calcium and so on, that is very important to being on low carb. I was on low carb a couple of years ago and was so wiped out I could not believe it, a seasoned low carber on another board told me to get myself to the store and buy the postassium and a calcium magnesium and zinc combo, which they have both at Walmart cheap, or online you can get them all too. After I started taking them I felt much better. Just make sure you are eating enough and if you are losing well, there is really no reason to deprive yourself of fresh veggies from your garden. If the only carbs you get are veggies, you should be okay within reason. But you do have to keep your protien high enough too. I hate to tell you this, but excercise will actually in time give you more energy, kind of the energy creates energy theory. Of course you will be tired at first, but some kind of areobic and then weight training of some kind of you want to build up your arms and legs, and I like your glass theory too, ha ha, but I am afraid that will not work !!!! Good try though !!! Well, gonna check out what you all have been doing today, I will be able to be on the board like usual tomorrow, so sorry to have missed all this fun today !!! Stephie ;D
