My hair is falling out in handfulls Don't get me wrong - I am NOT blaming this on low carbs.....I have had exactly the same happen before, when I was eating chaotically. My question is- is there anything I can do or eat to help this? I am taking a skin and hair suppliment, but is there anything else that might slow my impending baldness???

I read somewhere where some low carbers loose hair early on, but it stops. If you are loosing TOO much hair, where you have baldy circular spots, you might need to seek medical advice for "Alopecia". (can be caused by stress).

Thanks. No bald spots yet - it is just coming out all over . Every time I run my hand over my hair, about 20 come out - I am trying not to brush it!

Wow, I am so sorry you are going through that, I have not personally had that experience. Are you taking your vitamins, that is very important. But beyond that I can not even imagine why low carb would cause that unless it is something to do with ketosis. I will try to see what I can find out about this. I am very curious adn would like to prevent if from happening to me too. Stephie

Thanks Stephie. Any info appreciated. I am not blaming it on low carbs. It has happened before, when I was stressed right out of my tree! So I am putting it down to stress. But I suppose there could be a link with diet. I am taking a skin hair and nails suppliment. I hope that will help. Oh - and I am trying to de-stress!!!!

it is probably stress.......... and if you are worried about your hair, you are adding to your stress......... such a vicious circle. Hopefully the supplements help

I have not found anything yet, but have been distracted this past week and was not home last week, I will put some extra effort into my research this week, I know I have read about this before. I do agree with Dawn that stress can make it happen and if you pull at it all , it can make it worse, just try to not let it bother you and lets see what we can find out. I will check back with you later this weekend and tell you what I find out. Stephie

I would think it to be more stress related also "Ava" and knowing some of your stress related issues...that is what I would blame it on. By the way folks....she sent me some pictures of her the other evening and judging from past pictures (which....don't get me wrong, she's a beautiful person) this diet is TOTALLY agreeing with her!!! If I could look 1/2 as good as you when I get going it will all be worth it!!! You are simply glowing! ;D I have long hair and as the years have gone by, I have noticed that I lose it by the handfuls. I have PCOS and that is one of the symptoms of it...have you checked that out? Mine is thin on the top, it's not noticeable to others, but it is to me because it doesn't "flow" like it should.

Great to hear low carbing is agreeing with Avariel.. thanks for the up-date Everyone seems to have really long hair, except for me ........ Mine`s about shoulder lenght, and i`m trying to grow the layers out, so I can wear it up in the summer, without all these little bits falling down everywhere And my hair is very grey (in the front) ..... always has been........... but I usually dye it. I only dye it now when i have a special outing, as the dye doesn`t seem to stay in as long anymore .... after 2 weeks, you can see greys again

Thanks for your replies - and M.E. - thanks for the lovely compliments! I had a whole bunch of blood tests at the end of last week - to check throid as well as a host of other things, but thankfully - it does seem to be slowing a little bit. Not quite so much is falling out. I am taking all the suppliments I can think of and being super gentle with it in the meantime. It is getting very thin in places but luckily fo rme - mostly around the sides of my head, so it is covered fairly well still.

I`m glad your tests were negative, and the loss has slowed down ...................... hopefully it will stop completely soon

Haven't had the test results back yet - but I figure no news is good news and the main thing is that it's not coming out as fast as it was.

Bloods all ok!
So must just be stress and maybe partially the Atkins. But I hope the suppliments will slow it down.
