Hi everyone! I'm a 60 year old disabled RN that lost 45 pounds last year (down to 158) on low carb and then quit smoking and gained it all back this past year. I've tried to go low fat, low carb but it's not working well d/t the horrible cravings. I'm a type 2 diabetic and started taking Glucophage (Metformin) last year and one serious side effect can be lactic acidosis. I'm anxious about going into ketosis because being in an acidotic state can increase the chance of developing it. Is anyone else on this medication and in ketosis? My MD doesn't have a clue about any risk. I'm seeing an endocrinologist in a couple of weeks so hopefully he will know more about it. If I eat carbs, even steel cut oatmeal for breakfast, my blood sugar will jump to over 300. It's fairly normal on low carb. Suzy
