Hi everyone! I am not very good at the whole message board thing, so I'm expecting some errors! What a wonderful idea to have a low carb board! Sometimes eating "weird food!" can feel very lonely, especially when people think you are being awkward or failing to see your weight loss! I have followed low carb diets before - usually losing up to a stone (14lb) but often losing the plot after a meal out or something and never getting back to it. I used to follow the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, but then I tangled with weight loss drugs and messed up my body completely. Now if I do the same diet, I gain weight! So I found the Atkins a few years ago and have been following it "when I can" which has NOT been often! I had put on 10lb since Jan, so 5 weeks ago, I started the Atkins again. This time I have stuck to it and I have lost 14lb. But I have been stuck for a week! I find that the hardest of all - to be "following the rules" and not seeing the loss. So I am hanging in there by my fingernails! At least the Atkins bars have made it to the UK now - some of them, which makes quite a difference when the chocolate cravings strike! Good luck to you all! Avariel.

Hi Dawn! I have gone UP on the scales today , having been stuck for almost a week. Yesterday I ate an Atkins breakfast bar, a prawn salad, some slices of cheese and gherkins and an Atknins choc bar. This is so unfair! Any suggestions? You seem to be going great guns! Keep it up!

We have been discussing how processed Low-Carb products can make some people stall in weight loss.......Others dont seem to have any problems, or just dont mind slower weightloss.
Maybe go a couple of days without the Atkins bars, and see if that makes a difference. I know it is hard, as the bars are so handy (Especially for breakfast on the run), but they may be the problem.
I also have to watch how much cheese I eat... only haveing about 3 slices MAX per day.
I use a cheese slice as a base... put ham on it, then boiled egg on top, and eat it as an open sandwich for breakfast when I can`t face anything like bacon & eggs.
It`s all trial and error on a personal level. But I would give the bars a miss (and any other processed low carb foods), Just for a few days, and see if this is the problem.
Also, You may not be eating enough, if you only had 2 bars and a prawn salad for the day. Try snacking on more meats (ham, cold roast meats, chicken), boiled eggs, and drink LOADS of water. You need to keep a couple of large bottles of water , and drink some regularly....... This helps you keep track of your intake.... Drinking loads of water will help with weight loss.
I weigh again tomorrow, and are aiming for at least 5 pound loss. If I dont get it, I will also have to reveiw my menu and make changes.
PS:- I have a lot of weight to loose, so a 5 pound loss in my second week back on induction is reasonable).
Dawn ;D

I agree with all the above. The bars can be very dangerous. The last time I fell off my low carb plan it was because of those bars. They are very well known for causing stalls, and it would be the first thing I would eliminate for now. I also agree you have to ate enough calories. I would think like any weight loss plan you need at least 1000 to 1200 calories a day. really, on low carb it is not as important to worry about going over, but it is important to eat enough. Lots of good protien and veggies. Water , water , water, another point I agree on. if I do not drink a lot of water or diluted ice tea, I just do not lose at all. If I drink as close to a gallon as I can get a day, I can lose up to a half pound a day, if I do not, I will lost that a week. It is that drastic !!! We will help you through it, do not get discouraged. Every low carber at some point has to tweak thier plan around to see what works best for them. Also, pay attention so how your clothes fit, you can lose inches for a long time without losing a pound. Just make sure you eat enough, plenty of healthy protiens and veggies and drink your water , please at least for a while leave off the processed low carb food. AND the processed meats too, do not make processed meats the majority of your protien intake. Keep us posted, Stephie

Thanks Dawn and Stephie. Yesterday, I had a tin of salmon (no added anything) with mayo for brunch. I planned a healthy meal for about 4.30, before the cinema, but ran out of time, so had to fall back on a breakfast bar and a bottle of water. I had a salmon steak with mayo for tea and some cheese with 2 pickled onions 3 hours before bed. I had quite a few pistachio nuts over the weekend. I wonder if that's the problem. I checked their content, but maybe they should be on my "no go" list. Today I had 3 scrambled eggs with 5 leaves of spinach and 2 sausages at 2g carbs each. I am going to try to get back to basics with the meat fish and eggs and leave the bars alone for a while. Thanks for your help and encouragement.

The bars just can be dangerous. they just are too like the food we have given up that they can keep your cravings alive, and can cause problems with losing for some people. Eating one the way you did before the movie, is a good use of them, but also dangerous because of all the temptations in the movie theator, but you did great !! Just whenever you can, try to eat a good filling meal when you are going to be in a circumstance where temptation is so great. Keeping hard boiled eggs on hand or just rolling up some lunch type meat and cheese is a great quick way to eat, but you should be proud of how well you did. I also love pistashio nuts, and can eat way too many of them, also macadamia nuts are so good. I just stay away from them most of them time as I have no control when they are in the house. If you keep the amount you eat low, you should be fine, if like me , however, you can't stay out of them, then it is probably a good idea to keep them out of the house for a while !!! It sure sounds like you eat very healthy, that is so great !!! Stephie

Ok- I have a confession I was shopping in Tesco (big superstore) and I found a new low carb bar. I spend so much time thinking about low carb options that I was at the till with it in my basket before my brain engaged properly! But it has gone in the cupboard with the Atkins bars for now, at least until I get moving on the scales again. This bar is "Carbolite" 4g and it's strawberry - so I doubt I will like it anyway. Not a bit fan of stawberry flavoured things

LOL. Just couldn`t help yourself, could you.. ;D I can`t even have them at home, as I KNOW I will eat them.......... but if you can resist, that`s great. Good to have in emergencies. I wish I could carry one in my handbag. Just in case..... Maybe in a week or two, I will test myself....... see how long it stays without being eaten. I was telling Dawn & Stephie how expensive low carb bars are here, so that helps keep me away from them.

It's the same here. Very expensive. £1.00 each for some of the Atkins ones, £1.80 for others. I even found some at £2+ I'm afraid I am a hoarder by nature! I have to have a cupboard jammed full with food or I get jumpy! I am GREAT at leaving it there tho! All stored and safe...lol! I often (in my past WOL) had to throw out boxes of chocolates and biscuits because I had squirrelled them way past their use by date! I was shopping in the early January sales this year, when I went into Thorntons with a friend from the other end of the country, to shmoos their sale. Half price liquers! She joked about getting them for me then, to take home and keep until my birthday in March and I said "OK!" I think she checked almost every week! I sent her a pic of the WHOLE box, still alive and well right before my birthday in mid March!

My Brother used to be like that. The cupboards had to be OOZING with tin & packet foods, and the fridge & freezer were also packed....... I think it had a lot to do with being one of seven children, when money was tight. We always had food........ but not all the luxuries that some other kids had. We didnt have ice cream and chocolate biscuit very often........ We didnt get lollies, potato chips and soft drinks on a regular basis.
It is only recently that He has stopped this compulsive behaviour, and He is 49.
