Hi Guys, Hope you don`t mind an Aussie joining your board This is my fourth day Low Carbing... going well so far. I have a LOT of weight to loose, and are reading all I can for inspiration to help me stay on track. I live in Melbourne, Victoria with my other half. (Other half not dieting). Looking forward to reading all posts, and learning all I can. Us Aussies are doing it tuff....... we dont have anywhere Near the amount of Low Carb products avaliable to us as You all do Hopefully this will change. Also, I may ask questions on products listed in the recipes, as I will have NO IDEA what some things are Thanks in advance for all the info I KNOW I will find here! Dawn ;D

Hi Dawn, it is great to have you join us !! I think it is awesome you are an aussie and I look forward to learning more about you. I meant to answer you yesterday , but had a kind of down in the dumps day and did not post at all. We are still a new board but we do have some great members that have been posting lately. I am looking forward to getting this board more active, so please post away and we will all try to help you with your questions. I have been low carbing on and off for a couple of years but I am finally to the point I have to take this seriously. My body is letting me know I just cannot eat the carbs anymore. I am 44 years old and live in Texas, near Dallas and feel great on low carb. I am excited to see all your new posts and look forward to reading and answering them !! Stephie

Thanks for the warm greeting Stephie,
I have tried Low Carbing a few times, but give up early as I miss my Carb-foods too much, but this tme around I`m trying to stick to the basics, so i`m not as tempted. (once I have 1 piece of a low-carb cheesecake etc, I want more.... but tha`s what carbs do to you.... that`s why we are all here).
I`m on and off the PC checking the internet offen through the day. (Time share it with the other half LOL). I find it helps keep me on track. I`m really going to give my best this time, as the same with You, My body just cant handle all the carbs I was comsuming.
I am allergic to carbs.... the make me FAT! ;D
Dawn.

I may as well ramble on a bit more, seeing as it is so quite around here......
I`m 37, and my other half Dale (43), are currently living with my Mother as Her carers. (She has emphasema).
Dale and I have been together for about 4 years and we have two babies.... Becky, a 14yr collie cross and Sofie a 4yr Jack Russell.
Before Dale, I worked very long hours....... on my feet all day, and was quite physical. Whilst I was still very over weight (around 290 lbs) I was reasonably fit and strong.
Then came a few years of desk jobs, where the weight crept on........ to be at home 24/7, where my weight has ballooned to a massive 342 lbs.
My aim is to be be fabulous at 40! I want to look fantastic for my milestone age, and I`m sure this is the way of life to get me there! (TEXT..LOL)
As you said, this site is only new, and active posting members are scarce, I1m sure with the ever growing obesity concerns, more and more people will be signing soon, when they "SEE THE LIGHT!" TEXT

It sounds like you have a very full life. I totally understand how you feel about going on and off low carb. I started two years ago this month and am still at it. This will be the keeper though. I had gotten so fatiqued that my friends and family were worried about me. One day my daugher in law camer over and cleaned our house as I could not even do it. I had been very sick with the flu and afterward just never had gotten my energy back. I started back low carb with my hubby and on the 8 th of july I could not do 15 minutes on the treadmill I was so exhausted. One week later I could go a half hour easily. I was going for an hour the other day and was very close and the treadmill just stopped. It turns out we do not have grouned plugs in our 80 year old house so until we get it rewired, no more treadmill. I could get it to turn on later, and hopefully did not damage it, but it scared me. I waited a lot of years to get that thing and was terrified I had damaged it. So, no treadmill for now. I think that contributed to my blue day yesterday. I was so excited about walking an hour on it daily. I just cannot walk outside in this southern humidity, it makes me sick. I got a dvd that is called walk away the pounds, I am hoping you do not need a treadmill to use it. I am going to check it out tomorrow. I think if we keep encouraging each other and keep on posting, we can get to goal . Keeping the dairy low carb treats to a minimum is probably a good thing if you are like me. With hardly any dairy in my system, I do not crave it at all. It is wonderful. I get on and off the board all day too. Hubby is gone from noon to midnight between work and driving there and back, so I get a lot of time to play here. Your Mom is lucky to have you and Dale to take care of her. You will never be sorry you spent this time with her. My dad got sick after we moved 1500 miles away and I did not get to see him much his last two years and I will live with that regret the rest of my life. I wish I had gotten some more time with him. I will be checking regularly to see if you have posted, and I will be here on and off every day. Have a great night !! Stephie

It`s bad when you are too lifeless to do your daily chores...... glad your feeling better. Your Daughter In-Law sounds great to come over and help you out. My Mother is not bed-ridden yet...... still up and about, but breathless. Dale and I were living 3 doors up from her, but moved in with her about 6 months ago, as she couldnt do her house work. (Saves cleaning TWO houses). I do a lot (Like washing), late at night etc, so my days are free. I like to take Her out a few times a week..... to lunch and look around the shops, or visiting. I`m the youngest of 7. We lost my father when I was 23, to cancer. I didnt have much to do with his care, but I did nurse My grandmother for the last few months of her life. (My Mother couldnt cope on her own). So while She is still able, I let my mother do a lot of little things herself. (Keeps her mobile). At Present, I LOVE not going out to work........ especially since I was working a lot of hours previously, and on call all night. Because I`m home, there is NO excuse for me not to keep on track, as I can always cook up something low-carb. It was a bit difficult when I was a shift worker, as I couldnt cook at work, and was getting sick of cold cuts etc. It`s very frustrating to have a new toy and not be able to play with it. To re-wire your house will be a costly adventure, and as you have said, weather conditions hamper your ability to walk outdoors. Maybe you can march on the spot, to your new DVD? ? I have to get out and walk. Maybe join a gym, as I KNOW I will look stunning in a leotard! LOL

I am going to check out the dvd tomorrow. I have heard good things about it. We will have to have the house rewired sooner or later,we still have the very old wiring up in the attic, it is safe, but makes me nervous. My hubby has a friend who is a licensed electrician and since my husband is a maintance mechanic he knows quite a bit about electrical too. So they can do most of it themselves. It is just a matter of time, he works six days a week, mandatory overtime on Saturday so it only leaves us one day a week for any play or all the projects this old house needs. Needless to say, he has a very long honey do list, lol ! I do belong to Curves and will start back there when school starts in two weeks so that will be a big help excercise wise. I just miss my treadmill. I will not wear a leotard lol !!! It sounds like you have a lot of fun with your mom, that is so great ! My mom is pretty far away. I do miss her. Being at home should help, but sometimes it causes problems as there is too much opportunity to eat. I have been a stay at home mom for 21 years, I steadliy got heavier all during that time. I have the same allergy to carbs you have, they make me fat too !!! My husband worked for 12 years at a commercial bakery and with four kids money was tight on one salary, so we ate a lot of free bread. We really feel that is what contributed to our both being so heavy. He never gained as much as me as he has always had such a physical job, just like you were talking about. He can't eat bread anymore, it gives him serious heartburn. That kind of pushed us back onto low carb. That plus my being so wiped out I could barely function. Up until sunday when I messed up, I was to the point I was zipping around here doing all kinds of things, I do think I will be pretty close to that tomorrow again if how i feel today is any judge of it. I feel a lot better. What is the time differance between you and me, I have no idea at all !!! It is almost eleven at night now here, we are central time. Looking forward to talking to you again soon !! Stephie

2.19 pm here at the moment......... I can understand about eating free bread when the budget is tight.... Being at home means I dont have to plan meals for myself. I am, and always have been a grazer, so I dont eat 3 set meals a day..... Just snacking on meats and eggs, instead of potato chips and chocolate LOL As I said, it`s nearly 2.30 in the afternoon here, and so far I have had 1 hard boiled egg and about 4 slices of roast lamb. Even though I graze, I`m not eating huge amounts each time I open the fridge. Tonight we are having pork chops, so I will have a couple of fried eggs with mine, and maybe a slice of tasty cheese. I`m thawing a corned beef as we speak, and will cook it tonight, ready for tomorrows grazing. Even though the other half is not Low-Carbing, He does eat my meats & eggs LOL. Will have a day out tomorrow with my Mum to weigh, have lunch, and do some shopping. (Need More Meats). Meat is pretty expensive at the moment, so I go for the specials. I used to chat on ICQ a few years ago, talking to folks in the US.......... and most of them Hunted their own meats, buffalo, dear etc. We mainly eat Lamb, Pork & Beef here. (From a supermarket) LOL. Might venture out and get some fish for variety........ It`s good to hear your Hubby & Friend will be able to re-wire the house....... cutting the costs, but as you said, finding the TIME is the major setback. We are a nation of eating then self medicating.............. Dale lives on anti-acids every night for the heartburn Is "Curves" a gym? ??

I think you make a valid point. As humans, we tend to eat what we want and then medicate when it causes problems instead of eating right to prevent the problems. That is very big !! I think low carb solves a lot of health problems and contrary to those who want to bash it, it has not been proven to cause any health problems in just about everyone. Oh, of course there are always going to be exceptions, but most folks thrive on low carb living. The cool thing about low carb is another thing you touched on. the lack of hunger. You said you do not eat much food through the day, on any other diet you are starving all the time. I forget to eat sometimes on low carb, never did not on low fat diet, I was eating everything in sight. I love to have grazing food too, it is really the only way to do this successfully !!! We do not hunt either, we get all our meat from the store, mostly beef, pork and chicken. Love lamb, but can't get it here often, and it is very expensive here too. Curves is a woman only health club, it is circuit training. They are world wide, I am sure they have some there somewhere, maybe just not near you. I love that it is just for woman. I have to say I had to laugh when I realized both of you are Dawn, how wonderful !!! I thought I was nuts at first and than realized nope, they ARE both Dawn !! lol !! Stephie ;D

LOL... You have to go and change your name by deed-poll now Sephie ;D ;D
I looked up"Curves" last night, and seen that they were a womens only fitness centre, with both low-carb AND low-fat diet plans....
I had never heard of them before, but I think THEY must be the chain that has shaken up Weight-Watchers, as I heard on the grape-vine that THEY now are looking at introducing a Low-Carb plan, along with theor Low-Fat plan they have pushed for years........

They do push the low carb , but offer the other plan too. The guy that started Curves has two books out that you can read about the plans and the centers in. I do not do thier diet, but I do like the circuit training, it goes fast and is not boring. I especially like that no men are allowed, I feel comfortable there !!! Stephie

I dont think we have CURVES here is OZ (I might be wrong).
Most of our Womens-Only places are called FERNWOOD.
Happy you have found a place you are comfortable in........ makes attending on a regular basis more do-able!
