It is surprisingly easy to eat out and stay low carb especially with many of the popular burger places offering bun-less burgers now. Among the low carb friendly places are:
Burger King
Hardees
Subway
TGI Fridays
Ruby Tuesday
At Taco Bell I enjoy getting the taco salad (have them hold the beans) and a couple of soft taco supremes. I take the filling out of the soft taco supremes and mix it into the salad and just pitch the soft tacos or take them home to the dog. (He loves them!) I pitch the shell, too. (The dog won't touch it!)
In addition, you can find a good low carb meal at just about any restaurant if you look at the menu creatively. I have not been to the Olive Garden, but people on the various lists have said that they will give you a double portion of meat/no pasta for 1.5 times the menu price. I go to our favorite Italian restaurant and get a salad and bowl meatballs (no pasta) with a little sauce (on the side). They have said that people will order their steak hoagie on a bed of lettuce instead of on the bun, but I haven't tried that. Some people enjoy ordering 2 or even 3 high protein appetizers like chicken wings instead of an entree at wherever they are dining. And, of course, there is always steak and a salad. Many places will give you extra salad in place of the rolls and potato.
Bob Evans is great for low carb. In addition to all their lovely omelets and other egg dishes, they have 2 terrific salads - the Cobb and the Frisco. The Frisco comes with breaded chicken fingers instead of grilled chicken strips like the Cobb does, but they have been more than happy to substitute the grilled for the breaded. They will also substitute cottage cheese for the hash brown in any meal.
Look for a Mongolian BBQ wherever you are traveling. You have to skip the rice and rolls, but since it is all-you-can-eat you don't really miss them. This is one of my favorite places!
At a buffet like Old Country or David's (same company, different locales) you can just stick with the meats and vegetables and still get your money's worth.
