Low carb way of eating is not new....... most of us know that. It has evolved over the years, to produce some "Truely" low carb plans, such as Atkins........ to some more flexible versions.
I thought this was interesting......
1862 The Harvey-Banting Diet
1929 The Eskimo-style meat-only diet - Dr Blake Donaldson
1958 The Stone Age Diet (Eat Fat, Grow Thin) - Dr Richard Mackarness
1972 The Atkins Diet
1991 The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet
1994 The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
1995 Protein Power
1996 The Zone
1999 Schwarzbein Principle
1999 The Diet Cure - Dr. Julia Ross
1999 Neanderthin
1999 Your Fat Can Make You Thin Dr. Calvin Ezrin
1999 The Go-Diet
2000 Life Without Bread
2001 The Insulin Resistance Diet
2002 Fat Flush Plan
2003 South Beach Diet
Hamptons ? SommerSizing? Warrier?
There are HEAPS………. If you know of any more, please add. ;D

Wow, what a great list !! It is amazing how many plans are out there. I was so shocked a few years ago when I also read about the Harvey-Banting diet, is that the letter on corpulance, or is that another one from the 1800's? I just know that I was so shocked that this way of eating has been known about for so long and still is not mainstream, but at least now it is getting there. Stephie

No you`re right............. it was bantings letter.......
Thought it would be good for newbies to "Low Carbing" to see that it is NOT a fad diet, but one that has been around for many many years. (Just different versions).

That is a great point, as many people think Dr Atkin started it by himself, and that is just not true, and he was very candid about that. It is a proven way of eating and I do think in the next ten years, things will change a lot and you will see that more people will be eating low carb, than not. If a major donut company in the states is suffering from lower sales due to low carb, than that shows that things are starting to change. Stephie

I think most of the "NEWER" versions, such as South Beach and Hamptons are leaning more towards the low glycemic Index, rather than low carbing. Newbies to low carb will be bombarded with a flood of these "Newer" books avaliable on shop shelves, rather than low carb books I have purchased the SB book from Ebay, should arrive this week, and have bidded on the "montignac" book, because I like to keep up with it all............ but these are not "True" low carb ways of life.............. but they work for some
