It`s interesting when some over-weight family or friends frown upon this WOL? Or they just remark "Well I hope you stick to THIS One". I just retaliate with "At least I`m TRYING to do something about it! My eldest sister is grossly over-weight. (Yeah, more than me). About a year ago she managed to loose about 200 lbs. She was still very over-weight (bit more than I am now), but slowely gave up . Even though it is plain to see Her weight is increasing again, she still says she is dieting. (I know she isn`t, by what she is eating). (WAS doing a low-fat thing). I spoke to her on the phone this morning, and she asked how I was doing, and wasn`t negative this time. This is a plus! My other sister would LOVE to low-carb, but has been advised against it , due to liver problems. One of my brothers was horrified, saying that THIS is how Dr. Atkins died..................... No matter the evidence, some people will forever worship "Low-Fat". (Mind you, He is now paranoid about His middle age spread that wont shift, no matter HOW low fat He eats, or how much He walks)... Then there is my 22 yr old Neice......... currently around 390 lbs. Last week she started on "Herbalife", and tried to get me to convert. We now have an understanding.... We each have our preference of WOE and should respect that, and just encourage each other to succeed on our chosen plans. This works well. I`m not out there preaching..... or trying to make converts of them, I just want them to respect my choice when I`m invited out to dinner etc. One meal of High-Carbs WILL kill me........... well not kill ME, but My efforts so far. If we don`t have full support at home, at least we have it Here, on this forum. For that, I am gratefull!

I have a very dear friend who was at about 350 and lost 104 on herballife, she even became a sales person and bought a ton of the stuff to get it cheaper. She did lose but now that she is off of it, she can't afford to buy the stuff anymore, she has gained some back. I have told her and told her about low carb, and she says it is too expensive or she just could not eat that way. . She is such a wonderful person and I want her around and this worries me. She has talked about gastric by pass surgury, which some people just do not have a choice, but I truely feel if she gave low carb a chance, she would lose on it.The funny thing about the she can't afford it thing, she told me she would have to pay something like four thousand dollars of the surgury out of pocket well, I know eating low carb is MUCH cheaper than that, Her sixteen, going on seventeen year old daughter is getting very large too probably at least 100 over , and it just makes me sad they won't at least try it. I am hoping so much when they see me lose a bunch, they may try it. I think that will be the only way she will. I sure hope so, she has so many problems from her weight and I would hate to see her have surgury before she has tried this option. There are so many risks and then your stomach is changed for life. You can't eat certain foods ever, for the rest of your life, when on low carb you can eat all your favorates on occasion in the low carb form. I think our stories will help lots of people both in our lives and on this board, when they see us succeed and feel great while doing it. That is also such great motivation for me !! Lead by example and in turn help some one else decide to try this for themself. Stephie

I beleive people have the choice to follow their own paths, but herbalife is mainly pills & Potions, and SOOOOO Expensive. Then what?? as you have said, the weight creeps back on, for without their products, you haven`t learned how to eat better to MAINTAIN the weight loss. Surgery is very invasive and drastic, and should only be an option for those with servere medical issues........ but you can buy it, as elective surgery. Hopefully your friend will think about it more, and research the downfalls before she decides. like you said, maybe she will be inspired by your success, and give Low-carb a go. MUCH cheaper than the surgery! And her teenage daughter is seems to be on the same road My neice, who is doing Herbalife, if haveing the products bought for her by her sister. (THIS Niece is about 2lbs above organ failure..... TOO thin). Such a contrast. Anyway, if she sticks to it, she may decide to switch to low carb latter on. She was asking me about it again today, but thinks there is no way she could possibly live without bread daily! (Maybe as the weight comes off, she may change her mind). Anyway, I`m supposed to have her and her parents over for dinner soon........... the original request was for a roast, so now I will have to see what is allowed on Her plan, and make the accommodations. (Want to keep her on track, no matter What plan she chooses to follow). Must be something about My Lamb Roasts................. I`ve had people over for dinner quite a bit lately, and this is their prefered meal of choice

:)oh, yum ! I love lamb, but over the years it has gotten hard to find and very expensive. When we were first married I made lamb stew all the time, or lamb ground patties. We lived in California then. I miss it, and now that we live in Texas I have not seen any lamb at all. Well, our kids are here with the baby, talk to you later, Stephie

Roasting piece of lamb is a Leg. I wrap it in foil, and bake in the oven on very low for hours, then remove the foil and bake for another hour to brown. This makes the lamb extremely tender............ basically falling off the bone. I usually put garlic & fresh rosemary on the lamb aswell.
The one I cooked today was rushed........... cooked it on mid temp of oven, to do it quicker, but it turned out a bit tough. I like meat to be tender.
I also love pork chops at the moment.
Had some tiny lamb chops the other night, but dont have them often as they are just soooo expensive....... but these were on special, nearly half price.

I`ve never been big on hamberger meat....... I dont like minced steak like that or as rissoles, meatballs But I DID love it as spaghetti sauce LOL Not keen on chicken I used to have a plug in egg cooker....... it was very old and died . I actually brought one for my sister-in-law last year......... very cute... shaped like a Large egg and had feet LOL, anyway.... it was supposed to be $25, but when I went through the checkout at K-Mart (like your Walmart I think), it scanned for only $3. WHAT A BARGIN ;D It was the last one left, so I didnt re-new mine... Just cook them in a pot on the stove. I DID buy about 6 tins of tuna today.......... had a look at the fresh fish, but decided against it.

Lamb is great! but if you ask me, I'd say slow cook it everytime! It just FALLS off the bone! Mmmmm. I do chicken the same way, especially if it's going on the BBQ afterwards. It makes it beautifully tender and I don't have to worry about pink bits in the middles! It is a miracle with steak too (and it means you can buy cheaper cuts)! Being big runs in my family, on Mum's side anyhow. All the men in her side of the family are strapping and us girls are not exactly fine boned! I worry about Mum's weight. She had a heart attack a few years ago and I would love to see her lighter so she can exercise more and be more comfortable in hot weather. I know there have been many times in my life when I wanted to "diet" but knew that if I started right then, I would fail the same day. I had to wait until the time felt right. Mum is a whizz with nutritional know how and when she is ready to try a plan I'm sure it will be low carb and I will be ready to help her when she is ready to go! I used to feel guilty if I lost weight. Like I was leaving her behind. But now I want to do it to show her it can be done and hope that she will follow me. My friends all snort about Atkins (apart from one) and none of them understand it; even the ones I have explained it too. They think it is cranky. But I feel better, my skin looks better, and I have lost 14lb. None of them have said anything about that! One of my friends insists on passing me sweets if we go to the pictures! I explain it every time, before we go in, when he starts waving the sweets around. Even sitting the OTHER side of his girlfriend didn't help - he still passes them and won't take no for an answer! So now I say thank you, rustle the paper a bit, and then slip them in my bag!

it is very hard when people don`t understand Low Carb........... even with successful weight loss, they still think you will end up in hospital if you continue If someone is forcing carb loaded foods, just say you are not hungry..... much easier than try to explain why they look & smell delisious, but you can`t have them. My Mother is now supportive, as I have lost 16 pounds in 2 weeks..... and Dale is supportive, just doesn`t know WHAT foods are carb loaded LOL. he tried to get me to eat tin mushrooms in butter sauce with my steak the other day, saying Mushrooms are Good for you.......... He has no concept of sugar being used as a preservative in most processed foods. LOL.......... and then there were the cheesels He was eating last night... " they`re just cheese & corn" He say`s.......... Poor love, He IS trying.... ;D

Well, bless him for trying! It's great that you have someone in your corner at home! Living on your own is better than having an UNsupportive partner, that's for sure, and I find it positive to suit myself with meal times. When I shared the house before, I was in a "landlady" kind of role and fell into cooking a meal each evening for myself and the guy I shared with, who was working all day. I no longer have a platefull of food at 6.30 every night and I don't miss it. Now I mostly eat when I get hungry rather than out of habit.

I feel like i`m chaseing you around this board this morning... LOL.
I`m like you, I just graze most of the time, No set meals...... but I do eat with Dale most nights, as we BBQ the meat the dinner.
When you decide on your New House share person, Right from the start you may have to decide that meals will not be provided. It will free up a lot of your time, and help you keep at low carbing, if you dont have to pre-pare food for someone else.

And even if you do decide to cook for a new houseshare person....cook what it is you are to eat and tell them it's that or fix their own.

I still like the "Fend For Yourself" thing......... that way you are not tied down to pre-pareing meals at set times.......... but I suppose it depends on the terms you are letting the room out for.
