Dawn and I have been discussing how we feel this board could be of so much value to so many people out there struggling to stay on thier low carb diet. The wonderful thing about a small board like this, is we can get to know each other and really help each other. I really urge any body reading this, if you are a member and you have not posted, please just post today. It could be a tip you have learned, an experience you have had, how low carb has changed your life, what has been the hardest thing about low carb, and if you have any questions, give us a try, if we don't know it, we will find out for you. You will benefit the most from this support board if you help support it by posting. When no one posts, there is nothing to read. How disapointing it is to come here and there are no new posts. As Dawn suggested, if we all post in our own journal, even if we have a bad day, it will help, you can post in everyone esles jounal and comment on thier day, you can ask interesting questions, or answer those others ask. A board is a community, but we need each other for it to work. If you fall off, if you are not perfect, so what, most of us have been there and can help you get back up. Goodness, I have fallen so many times, and I learn something new each time. this is not a cookier cutter diet, it is very personal and what works for one person, may not work for another. Please please join us and help us to make this the wonderful supportive place that I know it can be !!! Stephie

I agree Stephie......
People could also just post about themselves....... troubles with kids, work, other health issues........
It doesnt all have to be about their low carb diet. A lot of people fall off the wagon and stop posting for a Variety of reasons..... and just to have someone to talk to, could help immensely. Every thing in life effects your emotions, good or bad, so start posting.......
it doesn`t matter HOW much you need to loose.... a little or a lot, is STILL overweight....... then there is maintenance, and KEEPING that goal weight controlled.
No matter what stage you are at, or even if you are just reading posts, trying to decide if this way of eating is fo you, POST......... ask questions, offer advice, share experiences....... Just Join in!.
We are all here for the same goal, and Together, we can make it!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

There are a million and One excusses why people dont start, or fall off this WOL, I know, cause I`ve used them all.... :oI can`t afford it:- ...... I`m actually saving money, not buying snack foods like potato crisps, chocolates, lollies, cakes, pastries, fast foods. Stick to the basics at first... meats, eggs, vegies........ Most people already have these items. ::)There`s not enough Variety:-........ Variety is only limited by your imagination. Without buying many pre-packaged foods, there are HEAPS of low-carb recipes converted from the High Carb versions. >:(I didnt loose weight:-....... If you didnt loose weight, there are many reasons why that could be......... ate too many carbs...... didnt eat enough food..........medical conditions..... Speak up, maybe someone can help! ???I`m frightened of cholesterol/heart disease:- .... Do some research.........a lot of health conditions are eleviated by this WOL, not Caused. I don`t have the will power:-....... You dont need it. Get started and the hunger & cravings go away. What has Chocolate (or other fav food) ever done for you? ? except increased your weight! I`ll feel deprived:-.... Why? there are so many low carb options of favorite foods avaliable (eaten in moderation), why be deprived? You just need to decide that your extra pounds are WORTH loosing. Become a LOOSER....... join us here!

I think it is more "Lack of Sleep", that makes me ramble on and on....
I get up around 8am but dont go to bed early. (currently 2.51am here). I hope to be asleep by 3.30am, as I`m off for my first weigh in this morning.
Can`t wait to check my progress, to see if I need to change a few things, or just continue on my merry way.
Will post my update ASAP on my return LOL.

You guys have no idea how excited I am to see you both here posting. I had given up a few times , thinking this board was just going to stay quiet. We have some of the best forums around, and so many things for people to talk about. I just know we could all have a lot of fun here, I am hoping we will get some more new people who will jump in with us and really get this board going, but we are off to a great start !!! I think it is so fun to be part of a new board, to help it grow. I am glad you are both here !! Stephie

We just needed a few people to start it going. I saw occasional posts but then they would not come back. I got to where I stopped checking for days or weeks as there was no activity. If we post every day we will attract people who will be interested in interacting with us. We have something like 90 members and no one posts, it is just too bad. I am hoping some of them will check in and see the new activity and join in. I am just so happy to be seeing so much activity around here, it is awesome !!! Stephie

I belong to two other boards, one is small but pretty well established and the other is huge. I rarely go to the huge one as it is too big to really get to know anyone. It is great for just going to read however. I prefer the smaller boards as they are more personal. I know this board can grow to a good size and we certainly have some wonderful forums here. I love how she put one for diabetes and all the other health things that pertain to people on low carb. Sugarbane gave us a very nice place to come to. We just need the people. It was hard as I was the only one here for so long and you can only post so many times with no one answering. I tried welcoming new members but that did not get them to post. I think they come to read, and since there is not much here yet to read they do not come back. I have been surprised at how many people prefer to lurk. I can't even imagine that, I love to post, it is fun for me, but not everyone is like that. So we can just have fun here and eventually we will get some more people to join us !!! Stephie

I also belong to an Aussie board, which has about 15 "regular" posters, and quite a few that come & go.
I like to keep in touch as it keeps me informed of things going on in My part of the world.
They are also a great bunch, who arrange get-togethers when the interstate people are in town.
It all helps!

:)How neat !! My other board also tries to meet in a place that is easiest for everyone once a summer. I have not been able to make it but hope we can make plans next summer again and I will try my hardest to go then. Having lots of support is so important. People around us not eating our way just do not get it really. I was once offered a piece of cake and when I turned it down, the lady seemed truely puzzled as to why I could not eat it even though I had told her. With low carb so main stream now, that helps. Is low carb popular in Australia too?? It sure is here in the states. it is the thing to do now, although we still have our share of low fat diets too, I do not think those will ever go away. All of a sudden there is a glut of low carb items on the market, it is wonderful, but i see a lot of dieters end up off low carb because they have fake fooded them selves off. You have to be so careful to not overdo the low carb stuff, but I am so grateful it is there. I use the condiments and artifcle sweetners a lot. It sure makes living low carb a lot easier. Stephie

America has More of EVERYTHING compared to OZ. More forums, products, ebay items...People LOL Low Carb here, like everything else is growing. I think a lot of people try it, then give up too easily as they havent pre-pared the correct foods needed in advance. (I know I have been one of these people in the past). Breakfast time seems to be most peoples downfall, as Bacon & Eggs every day looses its appeal REAL quick. Working people find it difficult to arrange things that will keep for lunchtime etc. When I was shift working, I had to take breakfast & Lunch OR Lunch & Dinner..... not being able to cook & eat on the job, my variations were slim at the time. Being at home all day suits me better, as I can just graze when i`m hungary, and dont have to worry about set meals. People are adapting more & more recipes and new products are popping up all the time. We do have stores here that sell product from the US, but the are just so expensive. Last time I was on this WOL, I was in a shopping centre, so thought I would purchase an Atkins Bar, instead of feasting in the normal food courts shopping centres have. That One bar cost over $7. and it had an alchohol taste to it..... from memory, something like a Rum taste . Then someone sent me a recipe to make my own version, which was Yummy!!. As I have mentioned previously, I`m trying to go as long as I can, without pre-packaged foods or makeing luxury items. .............. i`m no saint, i`m sure I will purchase something in the near future, but are holding out as long as possible. We have an Australian company who are producing Low-Carb items. Their latest are those instant soup sachets. You can`t buy direct from the company, only from distributers. These items are costly also. I previously purchased a small box (Size of cake mix) of their cereal (Supposed to be like oats).... it was around $12, and absolutely AWFUL!....... now people are posting all kinds of different recipes that contain this item. So Yeah...... it`s slowly growing over here. What seems to happen here, depends on the Movie Stars LOL. The weekly Magazines are forever including articles on how to loose weight the way this star or that star has done it, then will give a version on that diet. Atkins was featured again recently, with two little books you received over two issues of that mag, so It will see an influx again. It will be excellent if you could make the meeting planned for next summer....... as you have been corresponding for over two years, it would be great for you all to finally meet. ;D

The bars are expensive here, but not as bad as there, wow. We pay about a 1.50 for a bar,and I thought that was high. If there is ever anything you want to try, if the shipping would not outweigh the savings, I would be happy to send it to you. I am also trying to stay away from prepackaged things. One of the last times I was low carbing, it was those bars that knocked me off plan. I could not stop eating them. It was terrible. Pure natural foods are best for me at this point. Many people can eat the packaged stuff and do great, not me !!! STephie

Thanks for the offer Stephie, but I wouldnt get them through customs. (appreciate the gesture though). Must have to have a special Import licence, as some store`s DO have them. They stop anything with dairy in it, that`s why we here have`t been getting your low carb pasta`s etc.... I do have a great recipe to make my own style low carb bars..... made them last time I was low-carbing, but not this time as yet..... they were TOO Yummy.
Someone on Ebay here in Melbourne is selling Atkins bars cheaper than the shops, but like you, I`m trying to keep off them as long as I can.
i`de like to think I could carry one around in my handbag, Just for those times where we may get stuck and can find anything low-carb.... but I KNOW I will just eat it, then want more LOL.
